Leg Ulcers

To put it all in a nutshell, I feel better than good!! I have been to many Doctors in the last couple of years with no improvement. Dr. Joyce is outstanding as well as his staff.

I suffered from pain and an open wound on my leg for years. After multiple Doctors visits, the possibility of ambutation and huge medical bills I was referred to Dr. Joyce, and he said "we can fix that!" "I had bad circulation all the way down to my feet and ankles," says Roland Karpinski of Broward County. "As a result, I had developed a couple of wounds on each ankle and they wouldn't heal. I went to wound care centers, vascular surgeons, and other specialists for almost five years. Not one of those treatments succeeded in eliminating my painful leg ulcers. I had some vein stripping done, but the wounds just closed and opened, closed and opened...they would never heal...I went in for four skin grafts, but they didn't work either. The situation created a grueling routine...I went to a wound care center every Monday, they would treat the wound and wrap me back up again and the following week I'd have to come back and start all over. I always had these big four-layer casts on and they were terrible to deal with. I had to buy shoes that were a size too big so that I could get them over the casts. And I had to take medication." After suffering five years with what appears to be an incurable condition, Roland learned about Dr. Joyce. He drove nearly four hours to Port Charlotte on the recommendation of a vascular specialist in Broward County. Roland underwent the SEPS procedure on both legs. He had this to say: "Both legs are healed, and the quality of my skin is a lot better. It was a long way to go, but it came out perfect. Their whole staff does an excellent job. They're great!" My Mother has been telling me to make an appointment to see Dr. Joyce for 7 years now. Because I'm a very anxious person, I kept putting it off. Wow, was I pleasantly surprised.

After consulting with Dr. Joyce to determine the appropriate treatment for disfiguring and uncomfortable varicose veins of both legs, I began a series of procedures designed to improve the situation. Poor circulation in my legs caused a purple discoloration from my ankle half way to my knee. After treatment by Dr. Joyce, the progression of the discoloration has ceased, and has begun to lighten in color. I had been bothered for several years with swelling in my leg, particularly after flying or riding in a car long distances; and found I was waking up during the night with terrible leg cramps several times a week. I contacted Dr. Joyce's office, made an appointment and was tested. The results showed that I needed two laser surgeries. The leg cramps that had interupted my sleep stopped after the first procedure and I have had no swelling in my leg or foot. My post-op exam showed everything was working fine. The surgeries were done on an out patient basis and were relatively painless. I would highly recommend Dr. Joyce and his staff.

I was experiencing a constant ache in my leg with a cramping sensation to the calf of that leg. At night in bed, this feeling persisted and even woke me up. I was referred to Dr. Joyce by my primary physician. Dr. Joyce had an ultrasound done on that leg and found it to have an incompetent vein. I was scheduled to have a vein closure procedure done in his office. There was one very small incision done (did not require a stitch) and a catheter put through the vein. He then inserted a small wire with a laser on the end. The only discomfort I felt was the primary needle prick. I had a little discomfort for a few days after, but since then, the cramping, aching feeling in my leg has almost disappeared. What a relief! The procedure itself did not take very long and I was able to walk out of the office. I still need an additional procedure done, but I feel all the aching I felt will be gone after that.
